City Sets Safety Measures to Prevent SRP Mishap
(Cebu City PIO) – The Cebu City Government led by Mayor Michael L Rama has set road safety measures in order to prevent another accident in the South Road Properties (SRP).
“SRP has become an accident prone area and a killing field,” Rama pointed out in his message in today’s Flag-raising ceremony and further urged the thousands of City Hall employees to show zeal, courage and industry in doing their share.
Based from the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) records, there is an increasing number of vehicular accidents in the SRP from 199 in the year 2010 to 256, 272 and 280 in 2011, 2012, and 2013 respectively.
The Mayor has tasked the Citom, SRP Management Office, and the City’s Department of Public Works and Highways in implementing the road safety measures they crafted.
“Motorist must reduce their speed limit from 60 kilometer per hour (kph) to at least 40 kph” the mayor underscored, adding that the city will be putting more street lights, road safety precautions and a 24/7 traffic personnel in shifting duty to man the area, among others.
Rama reiterated that, “We should not wait for another accident to happen,” adding that he will not hesitate to close SRP to vehicle traffic if the measures will not be properly implemented.
“Do you think I am joking? No, I am very serious. We have to leave a legacy of pregnant memory and to bear in mind that faith will only be invincible if we plant belief in our minds and hearts and not let fear overcome our courage,” the mayor further enthuses and asked everyone’s cooperation to follow the new road safety measures.
