City Distributes Lots for Fire Survivors in Brgy. Lorega
The fire victims in six sitios of Barangay Lorega-San Miguel in Cebu City can now start over by building their homes, but in smaller and uniformed sizes of lots.
City Administrator Lucelle Mercado explained that it has been agreed that each of the over 500 families will be provided only with lots measuring 35 square meters.
Mercado said the assignments of home lots started last Wednesday and it was first done in Sitios Kamansi and San Roque and the distribution of other lots in four other sitios would be done this week.
The records of the Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS) revealed that there were 1,312 families who lost their homes when the fire erupted in Lorega-San Miguel, but only some 500 of them owned structures.
The Cebu City government re-blocked the area and established huge road networks to ensure that fire trucks and other government vehicles can pass through during emergency situations.
City Hall has prepared five meter-wide interior roads in every sitio in Barangay Lorega-San Miguel, while the new main access road in the middle that starts from Imus Road would be 10 meters wide.
Lorega-San Miguel Barangay Captain Fritzgerald Herrera said there are families who are complaining and asked the barangay to reconsider the sizes of their lots.
“Ang uban god nga pamilya kaniadto nakapahimulos og dagko nga luna unya karon kay na-uniform na man ang gidak-on mao nga nangreklamo sila,” the barangay official said.
The City government had already distributed construction materials like 10 pieces of galvanized iron sheets and 10 plywood sheets to each family whose houses were razed by the fire.
