Christina Grimmie, Gone Too Soon

Young and talented former The Voice contestant Christina Grimmie, 22, passed away on June 10 after being shot while signing autographs at the Plaza Live Theater in Orlando, Florida.

The killer was identified by Florida authorities to be Kevin James Liobl, 27, from Petersburg, Florida. Although his motive of killing Grimmie is still unknown, investigations are still being made.

But who was Christina Grimmie? Grimmie was a contestant in The Voice season 6. She captured hearts and turned heads when she achieved an amazing 4-chair-turn during her audition where she sang a rendition of Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball. She ended up being a finalist in the said competition.

But before that, Grimmie was already a budding superstar and a Youtube sensation. Her Youtube account zeldaxlove64 has over 3 million subscribers. She was known for belching covers of songs of other famous artists. Among her most viewed covers are I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz, Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus and Counting Stars by One Republic. Aside from that, she also went to do collaborations with other Youtube artists like Mike Tompkins and Sam Tsui.

Grimmie, in fact, performed with the boy band Before You Exit during the night of her death. Supporters of Grimmie has stormed the internet with messages of love and despair for her passing. Hashtags #PrayforChristina and #PrayforGrimmie are being used by millions of people on twitter.

Her death is a great loss to the singing and songwriting industry in America, but the music that she has created will still remain.
