Chinese Vessel Run Aground in Currimao Town, 5 Crew Members Rescued

Currimao, Ilocos Norte (PNA) –At least five crew members of a Chinese fishing boat were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine National Police at 8 am today (July 6, 2015) as their vessel run aground about 150 meters from the Currimao seaport.

PO2 Noel Palencia, chief, master at arms of the Philippine Coast Guard based in Currimao town said Monday one of the five Chinese passengers was brought to the municipal rural health unit for treatment as he was injured on his feet.

Two days ago, Palencia reported a vessel measuring 30 meters long and 7 meters width was docked at the international seaport of Currimao. He said the Chinese fishing boat is bound to Vietnam when strong winds and heavy waves hit them along the way.

As of press time, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported at least 261 families or 1,035 families in Barangays Callaguip and Masintoc, Paoay, Ilocos Norte were evacuated at 4:17am and 5:15am at the Municipal Civic Center due to storm surge warning while 28 persons, also in Paoay town were treated for hypertension at the Municipal Health Center as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake rattled Ilocos residents followed by a magnitude 4.3 aftershock, located 2 kilometers northwest of Marcos, Ilocos Norte on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, a fallen Eucalyptus tree along the national highway located within the boundary of Barangays Cadaratan, Bacarra and Binsang in Pasuquin town also led to a temporary road closure at 6:23 am on Monday.

As of Monday, the municipalities of Badoc, Pasuquin, Poblacion in San Nicolas, Bangui, and Batac City poblacion have no current while communication, transportation and water services are generally ok provincewide. (PNA) CTB/LGA
