China State Media Says Gaming Time Loopholes Should Be Removed
Chinese Communist Party (CCP) introduced a new policy last August that set rules to limit the time of minors from spending too much time playing video games. The rules were made as a necessary move to fight the online gaming addiction that Chinese youth are facing.
Gamers however, were not too pleased with the rules and expressed their outrage, finding loopholes in the three-hour limit set by the CCP.
Chinese state media has acknowledged the loopholes regarding the situation which allows minors to bypass the new rules.
The People’s Daily newspaper stated that despite these rules, there are still loopholes for these underage teenagers to bypass the rules. There are online platforms that do sell and rent game accounts and a lot of these minors have been buying said accounts to play for more than three hours a week. This is a situation that is worth the attention as stated by the newspaper.
The newspaper commentary also added that gaming enterprises should also be taking and actively be responsible to prevent these things from happening. Families and schools also agreed to create a more conductive environment where the youth are able to grow healthily and be safe. Part of the parents’ worries are minors using their real identities in registering for gaming accounts.
Authorities and video game markets have been worried about the effects of addiction to gaming and the internet among the youth.
