China Builds New ‘Driverless’ Bullet Train Ahead of Olympics
China unveiled a new driverless bullet train just for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
According to Xinhua News, the train was specifically custom-made for the Beijing Games. The train’s speed of 217 miles per hour and can carry 564 passengers per trip in its eight carriages and travel for 50 minutes from Beijing’s downtown district to the Olympic venues in Zhangjiakou, down from three hours via a regular express train.
The train also comes with a 5G-linked broadcast studio from which journalists can broadcast.
The construction of the railway started in 2018 and the Beijing-Zhangjiakou connection was completed in 2019.
The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics is set to kick off on February 4, 2022. (CT)
