CHED Grants 15 HEIs Request for Tuition Fee Increase
Zamboanga City – The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has granted the request of 15 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) here in the region to impose tuition fee increase for the school year 2014-2015.
CHED Regional Director Juanito Demetrio said Tuesday that the request of the 15 HEIs was granted after compliance of the needed requirements.
Demetrio said the tuition fee of the 15 HEIs will be increased by 4.3 percent, which is based on the regional inflation rate.
He said 70 percent of the increase in tuition fees will go to the salary of the teachers, 20 percent for the upgrade of school such as improvement of laboratory and purchase of books, and the 10 percent is for return of investment.
He said that seven of the 15 HEIs are based in this city and these are the following: Ateneo de Zamboanga University; Brent Hospital and Colleges Inc.; Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School; MEIN College; Southern City Colleges; Universidad de Zamboanga; and, Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology.
The others are from the following areas: Andres Bonifacio College, DMC College Foundation, Inc., Rizal Memorial Institute of Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte; Claret College of Isabela, Isabela City, Basilan; Pagadian Capitol College, Saint Columban College, and Saint Vincent’s College, Zamboanga del Sur; and, Marian College, Zamboanga Sibugay.
