CenVis to Get Multi-Hazard Maps
High-resolution multi-hazard maps will soon be issued to Central Visayas to bolster its disaster preparedness capacity.
Two agencies under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will prepare the maps, state-run Philippine Information Agency (PIA) reported.
According to the PIA, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) and PAGASA will launch these maps to “guide local government units in disaster preparedness to build safer communities.”
It also quoted DOST Assistant Secretary Raymund Liboro as saying the safety of communities lies in the hands of LGUs and disaster
managers.
For his part, Phivolcs director Renato Solidum Jr., warned that Negros Trench is a “high risk to major tsunami.”
The DOST held a two-day disaster preparedness road show in Cebu City last March 31 and April 1.
