Central Visayas Peaceful on All Saints’ Day
The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) reported no untoward incident on All Saints’ Day, except for the arrest of a notorious holdupper and confiscation of some prohibited items from visitors in the different cemeteries.
Police Regional Director Jose Mario Espino said the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day in the region has been generally peaceful since Tuesday.
Espino, who went to inspect all the cemeteries in Cebu City on Wednesday, also said the PRO-7 has not received any threat to the security of the whole Central Visayas region as well.
“It’s generally rather peaceful, but we will continue to tighten our security,” Espino told reporters at the Calamba Cemetery here.
Meanwhile, the alleged notorious holdup man and thief fell into the hands of covert operatives inside the Carreta Cemetery on Wednesday morning.
Juniyo Fernandez, 25, aka “Dongkoy” of Barangay Hipodromo, who was identified by police as a notorious highwayman, was arrested after cemetery goers reported the presence of a man carrying a loaded handgun.
The arresting team, led by Senior Inspector Jovito Labra of the Cebu Waterfront Police, recovered from Fernandez’s possession a .38-caliber revolver with ammunition.
The suspect is now detained at the Mabolo Police Station pending the filing of charges against him.
