Central Visayas Jumpstarts Child Developmental Milestones Training
Central Visayas jumpstarts the implementation of the Developmental Milestones Training of the Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days (ECCD F1K) Program as it held a Training of Trainers (ToT) Phase 3 Training on 30-31 August 2018 at St. Mark Hotel, Barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City.
A total of 20 participants representing the ECCD F1K focused municipalities of Cebu Province and select members of the Central Visayas Regional Nutrition Committee including NNC 7 technical staff attended the ToT. The capacity-building activity trained the trainers who will in turn capacitate health and nutrition workers in administering the ECCD checklist. The checklist will be used to detect possible developmental delays of the child to ensure that its full growth potential will be achieved.
Since its inception in 2016, the ECCD F1K Program in Central Visayas continues to nurture children’s growth by addressing health, nutrition, early learning and social development gaps particularly from conception up to the first two years of a child. Rigorous training of health and nutrition personnel in the three focused municipalities in Cebu Province which include Dalaguete, Santa Fe and Tuburan was done in 2017 on the ECCD F1K to improve strategies and capacities in carrying out nutrition education classes including participatory cooking demonstration to improve nutrition practices of mothers.
Given that health services are now made available and accessible to the target beneficiaries, provision of garden tools and materials for home and community food production, on-going nutrition education classes and roll out of the ECCD checklist, NNC hopes that stunting in these areas will be reduced.
