Celebrity Chef Urges Palo Folks to Work Hard to Achieve Dreams Despite ‘Yolanda’ Losses
Palo, Leyte (PNA) -– Celebrity chef Boy Logro encouraged residents of Palo to follow their dreams and never give up despite suffering terrible losses after being devastated by typhoon “Yolanda”.
Logro, a native of Biliran town in Biliran province, visited Palo Sunday for a cooking demonstration on various ways of cooking eggs as part of the activities to usher the 180th fiesta celebration of the town.
Before starting with his demonstration, he took time sharing with the audience his humble beginning as an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Oman. He said that even if he was just an elementary graduate, he was able to find a job that enabled him to travel around the world and meet royalties and prominent people.
A strong storm that hit his hometown Biliran when he was only 13 years old forced him to travel to Manila and work at a very young age in a restaurant owned by a Chinese businessman.
Logro then worked at a restaurant in Makati before landing a job overseas that gave him the opportunity of the lifetime to work as chef to Oman Sultan Qaboos bin Said al-Said.
There, he was able to prepare and serve food to visiting world leaders like former American President George Bush, Sr., the late King Hussein bin Talal of Jordan, former president Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and even the late Princess Diana of Wales.
He added that he was able to visit famous places around the world like France and Geneva with the sultan.
“It was very enriching experience,” said Logro.
After 10 years, he went back to the Philippines and worked at Diamond Hotel as a demi chef. He was promoted five times in less than two years.
“After a year of being an assistant executive chef, I was promoted as executive chef, the first Filipino Executive Chef in the country and my salary was P350,000 per month,” Logro said.
From that salary he was able to buy a property in Davao and put up a culinary school.
“There is nothing wrong with being poor, there is nothing impossible in their world for as long as we work hard and ask guidance from God because he will help us whenever we call for help from Him,” said Logro.
“God had never stopped in giving him blessings,” said Logro. He was given the chance to become a television personality with his own program.
Currently, Logro is hosting a morning show at GMA-7 along with female celebrities Donita Rose, Alexandra de Rossi and Gladys Reyes.
“I don’t have the looks but I have the wit and funny antics which are also needed in television,” Logro stressed.
“If you work hard, you will have a future,” he added.
He then stressed that people in Palo are very lucky to have a leader who thinks of his constituents’ future by implementing livelihood projects that will help them to have additional income.
During the cooking demonstration held at the town plaza, Logro cooked 11 dishes using his own recipe with egg as a major ingredient.
Among the dishes are fritata, omelet rice, poached egg, egg pudding, stuffed devil egg, egg maki, egg buffet with culled chicken, baked alaska, culled burger and chicken skinless sausage. (PNA) LAP/PGL/RTAMAZONA/EGR
