Cebu’s Dancing Inmates Feast on 65 Roasted Pigs
The Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), home of the world famous dancing inmates, celebrated the fiesta of the Birhen sa Fatima Saturday with a generous serving of 65 roasted pigs for its 2,600 inmates.
They were also served with “bam-i,” the local noodle dish, and downed with 500 liters of soft drinks.
The facility managed the feat by saving on the inmates’ pork consumption.
It usually received four whole pig carcasses until 66 weeks ago, when it decided to only accept three.
Since then, the facility was able to save 65 whole pigs which were served roasted Saturday, Cebu Capitol jail consultant Marco Toral said.
The additional food was bought using proceeds from the inmates’ bakery and canteen and donations from visitors who watch the inmates dance every last Saturday of the month.
The jail has recently completed the Birhen sa Fatima chapel at its quadrangle.
The PHP211,000-structure was built using donations.
One of the donors was Toral’s 79-year-old mother Edna, who chipped in for the floor tiles and the icon of the Virgin of Manaoag. (PNA) CTB/EB/SSC
