One of the beauties of Cebuano culture is its food. It’s cheap and easy to find in the streets or your nearest carinderias, you don’t have to call for special deliveries or rush to the grocery in order to get access of these snacks. Due to its unique features and delicious taste, Cebuanos and tourists go crazy for these cooked, Cebuano delights. These snacks can be peculiar to people who aren’t used to the “my-soul-belongs-in-the-streets” life style. It may not be enjoyed by everyone, but these Cebuano snacks were given a thumbs-up by plenty. These light snacks may not be served in a silver platter, but its taste will keep your taste buds surely racing.

Or peanuts if translated to English. These salty, crunchy treats can just be easily found in the streets. They come in three flavors; regular, sweet or spicy. You can buy it at either 5 or 10 pesos. Asides from fried peanuts, boiled peanuts can also be sold in the streets! They are served to you hot, and all you need to do is remove the shells and you’re ready to eat.

Fish Balls and Tempura

Fish balls and tempura are skewered on a stick and served newly cooked. These are usually sold alongside with kwek-kwek. You can buy it one stick at around 10 pesos. Dip it in either sweet or spicy sauces for extra flavor.

Kwek-kwek is quail eggs covered in orange batter causing the snack to be crispy. Three quail eggs are skewered on a stick and is sold at 10 pesos. Just like fish balls and tempura, it can dip in sweet or spicy sauces for that extra taste.

If one is craving for something newly cooked and sweet, banana-cue is the thing to eat. It is deep fried banana covered with sugar and skewered on a stick. This delightful goodness is served at less than 10 pesos.

Green Mango

Sliced up green mango that can be dipped on with shrimp paste (bagoong), salt or toyo. This salty, crispy snack can definitely fill you up. It can served at 10 pesos or 25 pesos, if you want a larger size.

Pair these snacks up with heaps of rice, beer, a soft drink, or whatever suits you. Some people say you aren’t a true Cebuano if you have not tried Cebuano street snacks. Dare to try something different. These snacks aren’t 100% healthy, but it is worth the try and experience. Show you are a true Cebuano and take your souls to the streets. Go on and indulge!
