Cebuano Christmas Carols Fill The Capitol
Cebuano songs for Christmas rejoiced the cool air of Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds as it held the joyous caroling contest Sugbo Daygon 2016 Tuesday night, a part of the week-long celebration of Pasko sa Kapitolyo 2016.
Nine groups representing Talisay City, City of Naga, Poro, Consolacion, Tuburan, Pinamungajan, Santander, Argao and San Francisco jingled the night away with merry sounds of Christmas.
The contestants raised the Christmas spirit of the audiences with Cebuano Christmas medley, dazzling props and costumes.
Municipality of Argao wowed the judges and the audience bagging the top spot in the competition. The group received a trophy and a cash prize of Php50,000.
Its delegates included the community choir, church chorale, and town councilor and lawyer Jonathan Sr. Caminade Villegas.
Charisa Mae Sarches, choir conductor, said they poured their heart out for five weeks to practice for the event.
“If you are willing to win you really have to have passion and drive and give time to what is important and set aside what is not,” expressed Sarches.
The town also promoted their local fabric Hablon de Argao by wearing the well-tailored modern-designed Filipiña and Barong garments.
Consolacion town got the second prize bringing home a trophy and Php30,000 cash prize while Talisay City placed third winning a trophy and Php20,000 cash prize.
The rest each received a consolation prize of Php5,000.
Prizes and plaques of appreciation were handed out by Cebu first lady Jobel A. Davide, Provincial Budget Officer Danilo Rodas, Provincial Secretary Atty. Pulcha Marie Acevedo and Sports Commission executive director Atty. Ramil Abing. (Francis Nacua)
