Cebu Provincial Women’s Federation Celebrates Women’s Month

The Cebu Provincial Women’s Federation, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), celebrated the 2nd Provincial Women’s Month last March 18, 2016 at the Capitol Social Hall.

Around 400 women from the different municipalities of the province participated in the event that carried the theme, “Kaayuhan ni Juana, I-apil sa Adyenda”.

Initially covering 38 municipalities and cities, the Cebu Provincial Women’s Federation was formed on Oct. 8, 2008. To date, the federation has a total of 54,602 women members from 51 municipalities and cities.

PSWDO Social Welfare Officer IV Marirose D. Lopez presented the accomplishments of the federation since it started until 2015.

These include the Bugasan sa Kababayen-an Project that was launched last Aug. 10, 2010, formulation of the Cebu Provincial Women’s Constitution and by-laws, cow dispersal project, livelihood trainings and seminars and coordination meeting and monitoring of the women’s projects initiated by the associations.

As of 2015, the Bugasan sa Kababayen-an project was already implemented in 42 municipalities and cities and with a total net profit of P9,345,481.

The PSWDO also awarded the best local government unitss implementing the Bugasan sa Kababayen-an Project. Five municipalities each received a cash prize and a certificate. These are the municipality of San Remigio at fifth place (P8,000), Danao City at fourth place (P10,000). Carcar and Moalboal were ranked second (P15,000) and third (P12,000) placers, respectively.

The Municipality of Carmen won the first place and received a cash prize of P18, 000.

Meanwhile Vice Governor Agnes Magpale expressed her support to the participants and encouraged them to be more empowered and be the voice of the community.

She also said that she has many plans for the women in the province. “I thought of putting up a Provincial Women’s Commission diin ang mga programa alang sa mga kababayen-an moagi og legislations (wherein the programs for women will pass through legislations),” said by Magpale.
