Cebu Province Snares 15 Golds on Day 2

The Cebuano karatekas won 12 of the 20 gold at stake in the day and each secured a ticket to the national championship set middle of this year.

“The perseverance of the kids in training has paid off,” said Manuel Aloba Sr., one of the four coaches.

Cebu Province karatekas who won a gold in the kata individual competitions were Justin Angel Aloba, Alexis Nicole Villacaros, Rheiane Annarie Luza, Enzo Nirel Hipulan, Cindy Sanchez, Edan Kyle Araneta, Nino Kime Avila, Janine Narboada, Precious Avegail Belicario, Giovanni Ephraim Apuya.

They also turned in two golds in the boys and girls team kata categories, aside from winning three silver and six bronze medals.

In other disciplines, Cebu Province also harvested a gold medal from taekwondo courtesy of Mery Krizel Parandas who topped in the girls’ pinweight 12-13 age group and two from athletics.

Sisters of Mary School Gio Beguña continued to blaze the field of the Iloilo Sports Complex by ruling the boys’ javelin for his second gold in the meet organized by the Philippine Sports Commission. On the first day, Beguña won a gold in discus throw. Cebu Province also reigned in the boys’ 4×100-meter relay.

After two days of action, Cebu Province landed at the second spot in the medal tally with 19 gold, 12 silver and 17 bronze medals.

Host Iloilo City is lurking on top of the leader board with 20-12-13 (g-s-b) while Cebu City is at third place with 17-24-25.

In futsal, Cebu Province girls’15-under team hastened its bid in reclaiming its regional crown after it logged its third straight win at the expense of Pontevedra of Negros Occidental City, 3-2.

Yesterday, the Province’s basketball team turned the game into a practice as it decimated Sipalay, 78-31, to extend its winning streak to two. (Cebu Provincial Gov’t)
