Cebu Province Implements Strict Barangay Border Control Again
With strict border control between Cebu City and the Province of Cebu once again implemented starting today, barangay border control will also be implemented again.
The implementation of barangay border control aims to lessen the number of people coming in and out of certain barangays.
“All barangay captains are required to implement controls on the borders delineating their respective barangays in order to limit the entry of persons thereto,” according to a recent memorandum issued by the Cebu Provincial Government.
Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia explained that COVID-19 cases in the province increased rapidly since they eased up border control on June 1.
According to data, in a span of 69 days from March 23 – May 31 there were only 162 cases in the province but now, in a span of only 23 days from June 1 – June 23, Cebu province recorded 589 cases.
“We go back to where we were when we were very, very strict,” Garcia said.
With strict border control now in effect once again between Cebu City and Cebu Province, and in the barangay-level, people are urged to stay at home and observe safety and health protocols.
Essential workers however are still allowed to enter the province. (MLC)
