The Cebu provincial government has donated a 6,148-square meter lot to the Department of Education (DepEd)-Cebu Province in Sitio Sudlon, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

The donated lot included the area where the building of DepEd-Cebu currently stands.

The building was once occupied by the Cebu Provincial Health Office and the Cebu Provincial Health Laboratory.

The deed of donation was signed Wednesday by Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III, Education Secretary Armin Luistro, Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, Cebu Provincial Board Member Peter Calderon and DepEd 7 Director Julieta Jeruta.

One of the provisions in the deed of donation is for the property to be used only as the office of the DepEd-Cebu Province.

Under the deed of donation, the donated property including all buildings and improvements will revert automatically to the province if the DepEd-Cebu abandons it or uses it for any other purpose.

Davide said investing in education is one effective way of reducing poverty.

Davide said education provides everyone the tools to help them become better persons.

DepEd-Cebu Provincial Schools Division Superintendent Arden Monisit said he is grateful for the donation because for over 61 years, the division did not have a permanent office.

Luistro thanked the province for the donated lot and said that funds for the improvement of the building will be included in the DepEd’s 2016 budget. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
