Cebu Province Climbs Back to 2nd Place
With gold medals from karatedo continued to pour in, the Cebu Province regained the second spot of the leaderboard in the Batang Pinoy Visayas Qualifying after four days of action here in Iloilo City.
Cebu Province karatekas dished out another gem of performance for three straight days, winning five more golds in the kumite competitions.
The boxing team also contributed two golds yesterday to help Cebu Province ascent in the medal ranking from fourth place with 32 golds.
Iloilo City remained on top of the medal tally with 41 golds, while Cebu City is breathing down Cebu Province’s neck with 30.
Leading the charge for the boxing team was JM Andrejas who pummelled Ruben Borcello of Northern Samar from start up to midway of the second round, forcing the referee to stop the fight and declared the Cebuano the winner of their boys flyweight match.
With his aggressive fighting style, Andrejas wowed the crowd and a got cheered even from the Illongos.
Sean Oneil Abello also carved out a convincing victory via a unanimous win over Justine Valero of Negros Occidental in the boys light mosquito weight.
Meanwhile, the Cebu Province boys basketball bowed down to Cebu City, 80-77, on Thursday but still managed to make it the crossover semifinals with the highest point difference.
The girls basketball, on the other hand, marched into the medal round after rallying past Iloilo City, 68-65.
