Cebu Police Prepares for Holy Week
The police force in Cebu is getting set for this year’s Holy Week. This year’s Holy Week observance might be the closest experience of the pre-pandemic times as Cebu is under a more relaxed Alert Level system.
Holy Week activities such as Visita Iglesia, Sugat, Pasyon, and other activities are now allowed in Cebu.
Meanwhile, popular pilgrim sites for devotees are also open during the Holy Week.
The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is ready to deploy its personnel in key areas during the observance of Holy Week.
CCPO Deputy Director Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla said that they are on full alert to cater to the rush of devotees during this time.
Police officers under the CCPO are not allowed to file a leave of absence while officers on vacation will be called to report back to duty.
Parilla also said that this is more challenging, especially with the coming elections this May.
Meanwhile, the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) is also on full alert status for the Holy Week.
CPPO Chief Col. Engelbert Soriano said that they are also deploying officers in areas where people flock during the observance of the Holy Week.
Soriano also said police officers in Bantayan and Minganilla will not be allowed to file a leave of absence as these are key areas during the Holy Week.
Many people go to Bantayan during the holy week because of their lively observance of Holy Week. Meanwhile, Minganilla is famous for its Sugat Kabanhawan Festival on Easter Sunday.
Soriano also said they are on the lookout for illegal gambling especially tigbakay or cockfighting during the observance of Holy Week. (ASC)
