Cebu OTOPs In 2016 Sinulog Fiesta Fair
Five Cebu One Town On Product (OTOP) are featured in this year’s Sinulog Fiesta Fair.
The annual Sinulog trade fair formally opened recently with five OTOPs on display along with several other Cebuano products and delicacies.
Nelia Navarro, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cebu Provincial Director, said the five OTOP products are “rosquillos” of Liloan town, “chicharon” of Carcar City, “torta” of Argao, “suncake of Dalaguete, and the guitar industry in Lapulapu City.
OTOP is a priority program of the government to promote entrepreneurship and create jobs.
“Through OTOP, local chief executives of each city and municipality take the lead in identifying, developing, and promoting a specific product or service, which has a competitive advantage,” Navarro said.
It supports micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to manufacture, offer, and market distinctive products or services through the use of indigenous raw materials and local skills and talents.
Elias Tecson, DTI Cebu Product Development Officer, said there are 52 participating MSME’ and there are 36 exhibitors from Cebu.
Other exhibitors from outside Cebu include four from the Province of Bohol, three from Davao, two from Baguio, two from Manila, two from Dumaguete, and one each from Palawan, Zamboanga, and Leyte.
The Sinulog Fiesta Fair is spearheaded by DTI-Cebu, Cebu City Government, and Sinulog Foundation.
It is organized to support the MSME’s need to develop new market and serves as a perfect opportunity for producers and manufacturers to meet new buyers and establish linkages with other suppliers.
It will run from January 8 until the 18th at the Atrium A and D of SM City Cebu. (rmn/fcc/PIA7-Cebu)
