Cebu Hosts Basketball Tournament for Priests on July 7-10
Many priests from all over the country will get a chance to take a break from their duties with the church and promote an advocacy in the 3rd Inter-Clergy Basketball Tournament on July 7 to 10 at the Capitol Parish Gym in Cebu City.
The event, organized by the Spring Rain Global Consultancy Inc., attracted 14 teams from all over the country.
The organizers are elated over the turnout since they even planned not to hold the event this year due to financial considerations.
Seven new entries will be joining defending champion Padres Recoletos for this year’s event.
The new teams are the Talibon Padres of Bohol, Tagum Clergy Builders, Davao Aguilas, Centennial Team of Pangasinan, Oro Clergy of Cagayan de Oro, San Carlos Ubunto of Negros and the Padres Bacolod.
Aside from the defending champion, the teams which are returning for another stint in the tournament are inaugural champion All-Stars Clergy, the Sto. Niño Augustinians, Discalced Augustinians, Dumaguete Clergy, Sacerdos and Paring Bukidnon.
Aside from playing for the title, Glenda Antonio, the CEO of Spring Rain, said the teams are playing for various charities.
The All-Stars Clergy, San Carlos Ubunto, Oro Clergy and Paring Bukidnon are hoping to raise funds for programs that will help retired and old priests.
The rest are hoping to raise funds for the rehabilitation of their disaster-stricken parishes. (PNA) SCS/EB/MP/RSM
