Cebu gears up for first ‘Earth Day Green Festival’
On April 21 to 22, Cebuanos will gather to celebrate Earth Day through an event organized by various groups and organizations dubbed as “Earth Day Green Festival 2013,” the first ever in Cebu. The people behind the event believe that more like minded people can get together to promote a greener lifestyle through the festival.
The festival has lined up a set of events and workshops such as Cebu Green Lungs Bike & Board Tour (April 21), a bike ride that invites bicyclists, skateboarders and even families to participate in the environmental campaign. Other activities include the Vinyasa Yoga, a free yoga session for the participants to appreciate healthy living, and Green Festival Workshops (April 22) to educate the Cebuano community about certain initiatives on promoting local production of renewable materials and green technologies. The festival will also culminate with an awards ceremony recognizing leaders focused on sustainable community development.
“It is not just about saving the earth but providing solutions that are simple and practical,” Joel Lee, Movement for Livable Cebu (MLC) founder and West Gorordo Hotel owner, said. “There are many things to improve and it can happen here and now.”He added.
The festival’s organizers behind the event include, among others, Tindak Bisaya Cebu Folding Bike Society, Cebu Coalition Food Security and Movement for a Livable Cebu. For details on the festival, visit their Facebook group: (Earth Day Green Festival CEBU).
