Cebu City Scholars Who Graduate with Honors to Get Cash Incentives
Cebu City Government scholars who will graduate with honors will receive cash incentives of up to PHP20,000.
The Cebu City Council has approved the “Cebu City Scholar Honor Graduate Incentive Program” ordinance authored by Councilors Alvin Dizon and Lea Japson.
“The incentives must be provided to the city scholars in order to recognize and reward their academic achievement and to encourage others to excel in their studies,” said Dizon and Japson.
Under the two-page newly-approved measure, scholars who will graduate as summa cum laude will receive PHP20,000 from the City.
Those who will graduate magna cum laude will get PHP15,000, while PHP10,000 will be given to cum laude graduates.
The ordinance states that the cash incentives will be given every March and October of each year.
Those who will graduate in March and October this year will already be covered by the ordinance, with their cash incentives to be funded by the city’s share of revenues from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor).
The city gets at least PHP4 million every month from Pagcor.
Funds for the succeeding years will be taken from the City’s annual budget.
Of the city’s first batch of 2,665 graduates under the scholarship program last year, five of them were magna cum laude, while 105 of them were cum laude. (PNA) FFC/EB
