Cebu City Releases 1M to All Barangays for 2nd Round of Monetary Aid

The Cebu City Government has released the second round of monetary support of at least P1 million in financial aid to each of the 80 barangays in the city on Monday, July 13, 2020.

During a press briefing, Atty. Rey Gealon, spokesperson for Mayor Edgar Labella, said that the money each barangay receives shall be spent in the procurement of the needs of their residents and essentials in the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“Ang maong financial assistance gastuhon alang sa pagkaon, tambal, vitamins, PPEs ug masks basta may kalabutan sa atong pagpakigbatok sa COVID-19,” Atty. Gealon said. “Gisugdan na ang pag-apod-apod sa maong ayuda nga maoy gamiton sa atong mga kapitan ug konsehal pagpamalit sa panginahanglan para sa ilang mga molupyo,” he added.

The monetary aid is the second round of support each barangay has received from the city government. The barangays were given 300,000 sacks of rice, personal protective equipment (PPE), and monetary support initially before the second round of monetary support was given.

The aid was sourced from Cebu City’s 2020 annual budget under the aid to the barangays.

The top 10 most populated barangays received P3 million each. These include barangays:

  • Guadalupe
  • Mabolo
  • Mambaling
  • Lahug
  • Tisa
  • Basak San Nicolas
  • Lahug
  • Labangon
  • Inayawan
  • Bulacao
  • Quiot.

The next 10 barangays in most population received P2 million each. These barangays are:

  • Apas
  • Kamputhaw
  • Basak Pardo
  • Cogon Pardo
  • Kalunasan
  • Punta Princessa
  • Kalubihan
  • Barrio Luz
  • Kinasang-an and,
  • Duljo Fatima.

P1 million was given to the rest of the 60 barangays.

Each barangay is to spend 80% of the monetary support in the procurement of food items for their residents with the remaining 20% to be spent on PPEs. (GFB)
