Cebu City Named Child-friendly LGU Anew
For the second year in a row, this Queen City of the Philippines has achieved another milestone with the recognition in the national level as child-friendly local government unit.
The City of Cebu was conferred with the ‘Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance’ by the Council for the Welfare of Children for its commitment in promoting child rights such as survival, development, protection and participation.
City administrator Dr. Lucelle Mercado presented the ‘Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance’ before the thousands of Cebu City Government employees during this Monday morning’s regular Flag-raising Ceremony held in the Plaza Sugbo.
Mercado enthuses that this is another pride and achievement of the city. She also bared that the city only received the ‘Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance’ later in the month of January this year, adding that the awarding was held last November 13, 2015.
She handed the recognition to the city’s Department of Social Welfare and Services or DSWS represented by assistant department head Lucia Mahusay.
The ‘Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance’ bore the theme, “Child-Friendly Philippines: A Caring and Protective Society For, By, and With the Children”.
The award was signed by Department of Interior and Local Government secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento and Department of Social Welfare and Development secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman who is also the chairperson for the Council for the Welfare of Children.
Being one of the awardees, this city will compete for the Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Cities under the independent component city category this year. (Cebu City Public Information Office PIO/Greggy Jiggs P. Senados)
