Cebu City Mulls Bike Lanes in SRP, Tourist Destinations
The Cebu City Government is drawing up plans to establish bicycle lanes at the 300-hectare South Road Properties (SRP) and around tourist spots in the city.
The Cebu City Sugbo Bike Lanes Board initially planned to have the tourist route available during off peak hours on weekends and weekdays.
The board also approved lanes for those who want to pedal to work or school every day and for those who pedal for recreation.
The board was created by City Ordinance 2408, the Sugbo Bike Lanes Ordinance authored by Cebu City Councilor Nida Cabrera.
The recreational route will be established on a 20-kilometer loop in the SRP.
Cebu City Councilor Gerardo Carillo, head of the Sugbo Bike Lanes Board, said the recreational route will be from the Mambaling Access Road to the SRP seaside area, the Duljo Fatima service road and back to Mambaling.
He said the recreational routes will also include trails to eco-tourism sites in the city’s mountain barangays.
Carillo said they will discuss when to implement the ordinance during the bike summit on June 20 and 21 in Dumanjug, Cebu, which is expected to be attended by 50 representatives of different bikers’ associations.
After the summit, Cabrera said city’s traffic agency will start marking the roads where bike lanes will be established. (PNA) LAP/EB/RSM
