Cebu City Mayor Labella has requested the national government for more vaccines for the city.
In a Facebook post, Labella said that as soon as he read the news that more vaccines arrived in the country, he immediately contacted vaccines czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr.
“As soon as I read the news that Vaccine Czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. has reported to President Rodrigo Duterte nga niabot na ang laing 500,000 doses of Sinovac, I immediately communicated with Secretary Galvez,” Labella said.
Labella ask that Cebu City be given a fair share of the vaccines, as more senior citizens are willing to be vaccinated in the city.
“Nanghangyo ko that Cebu City be given a fair share of these doses, kay daghan na og senior citizens sa atong dakbayan ang willing magpabakuna based on the online registration and they are just waiting for these to arrive (I asked that Cebu City be given a fair share of these doses because there are more senior citizens in the that are willing to be vaccinated based on the online registration and they are just waiting for these vaccines to arrive),” Labella said.
Labella also mentioned that Secretary Galvez assured that 150,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccine to arrive soon and other brands such as Moderna and Pfizer by June or July.
Labella also said that the Cebu City government will also wait until the rollout of the free vaccines will finish before the city purchases its own vaccines.
“We are doing our best to be prudent in spending the budget that the City Government has allocated for the purchase of our own vaccines,” Labella said.
As of April 22. almost 10,000 senior citizens in Cebu City have registered to be vaccinated. However, only half has been vaccinated out of the 19,000 in the online registration. (ASC)
