Cebu City Looks into New Tech for Inter-Barangay Communication
Cebu City looks to link up its 80 barangays with new technology to improve communication, especially during emergencies.
Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC) Chair Atty. Gerardo Carillo said that the city plans to use “11G,” a point-to-point microwave network linking Cebu City Hall to its 80 barangays.
Carillo pointed out that communication is vital during disasters such as Typhoon Odette that ravaged the city last December 2021.
11G is a more powerful signal than the current 5G — the new frequency used in new smartphones, WiFi devices, etc.
The 11G serves as a foundation for communication and connectivity for the 80 barangays in the city. 11G will also be used as the city’s early warning system in disasters or other emergencies. (ASC)
