Cebu City Issues 171 Firearms to City Cops
The Cebu City Government has issued 171 firearms, including rifles, to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), an official said.
Ronald Malacora, the city’s General Services Office (GSO) officer-in-charge, said the firearms issued to the CCPO included 22 shotguns, 10 rifles and short firearms.
Malacora said the CCPO sent personnel to pick up the weapons, which were first inspected to determine which were still operational and which needed repair.
Earlier, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 ordered the city to surrender all its 249 firearms whose licenses have expired while their liceses are renewed.
But the city was able to turn over only 223 unlicensed firearms to the police.
Malacora said 11 of the 26 rifles were issued to policemen who are at the moment, untraceable.
“We’re asking assistance from CCPO in locating these policemen. Maybe, they’ve been reassigned to other places,” he said. (PNA) FPV/EB/EDS
