Cebu City Implements Stricter Speed Limits
The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) is now using speed guns to catch speeding motorists along the city’s roads.
Motorists expect much stricter implementation of the City Ordinance 2616 that will require motorists to adhere to the speed limit when on the roads of Cebu City.
Paul Gotiong, CCTO’s deputy chief for operations, said that they will be testing the newly acquired speed gun on the South Road Properties, North Reclamation Area, and Transcentral Highway.
Gotiong also urged motorists to adhere to the speed limit or be penalized.
First offenders will be fined P2,000 and attend a four-hour seminar. Second offenders will be fined P2,500, attend a four-hour seminar, and spend three hours for community service.
Meanwhile, motorists caught for the third time will be fined P3,000 and have their vehicle impounded.
Speed limits under the City Ordinance 2616:
Car and motorcycles
- 80 kph on national primary roads
- 70 kph on national secondary roads
- 60 kph on national tertiary roads
- 40 kph on provincial roads
- 20 kph on barangay roads
Large vehicles (buses, trucks, etc.)
- maintain 50 kph on open roads
- 30 kph on through streets
- 20 kph on crowded streets
