Cebu City Government Gives Free Medicines to Fire Victims in Urban Village
The Cebu City Government on Monday distributed free medicines to about 200 fire survivors who have fallen ill in a temporary shelter for fire victims in Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City.
A seven-hour fire hit the area late Thursday night, razing down the houses of 602 families and leaving some 2,722 individuals homeless.
Some of the homeless fire survivors got sick, prompting the Cebu City Health Department (CHD) to send five doctors who conducted medical consultations.
The doctors found that most of the kids and adults, who were victims of the fire that hit Barangay Duljo-Fatima on December 1, were suffering from common colds and protein deficiency.
CHD spokesperson Kenneth Siasar said they will be closely monitoring the condition of the victims in the following days after which they conduct another medical consultation.
Aside from the medicines, the CHD also distributed multivitamins and food supplement to boost their immune systems.
Siasar said that despite the ailments, the survivors’ physical conditions are manageable and nothing serious was diagnosed.
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said he has signed the executive order (EO) doubling the PHP10,000 financial assistance to PHP20,000 to those whose houses were destroyed in the fire.
He said the EO will also cover the previous fire incidents. (PNA)LAP/EB/EDS
