Cebu City Forms Team to Ensure Smooth Governance Transition
The administration of Mayor Tomas Osmeña has formed a transition team for the proper and orderly turnover of official documents to the incoming administration of Mayor-elect Edgardo Labella.
Assistant City administrator Annabeth Cuizon said in a brief interview Thursday that City Administrator Nigel Paul Villarete will head the transition team, which is set to meet Friday.
Cuizon said among the topics for discussion are what documents to be turned over to the group of Labella, who is currently the vice mayor of Cebu City.
Also expected to attend the meeting are the different department heads of the city government.
Vice Mayor Labella unseated Osmeña as mayor in last Monday’s election with 265,436 votes against the latter’s 246,399.
Meanwhile, the winning councilors in Cebu City’s South District were proclaimed early dawn Wednesday.
Cebu City Commission on Elections (Comelec) Election Assistant Meguimi Tapia said the winning eight city legislators were proclaimed around 2 a.m. right after all the votes were transmitted.
The canvassing of votes in the South District was only completed early Wednesday morning as the SD card from a precinct in the Labangon Elementary School was damaged and had to be repaired.
Proclaimed City Councilors in the South District were former PBA star Dondon Hontiveros, former Congressman Antonio Cuenco, former City Councilor Renato Osmeña Jr., Raul Alcoseba, Philip Zafra, and reelectionists David Tumulak, Edu Rama, and Eugenio Gabuya Jr. (PNA)
