Cebu City Braces for Omicron Variant
As the new omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus entered the country, the Cebu City government is set to prepare measures to prevent the further spread of the COVID-19 in the city.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama announced the reimplementation of the measures during the last surge of COVID-19 cases in October.
Rama said that he would bring back the “Oplan Puyo” or operations plan stay at home program which urges city residents to stay at home if there are no essential activities to do outside.
Rama also urged the public to follow the minimum health protocols such as wearing face masks, practicing social distancing, and regularly washing their hands to prevent the spread of the virus.
Moreover, minors who are fully vaccinated can still go to malls and other establishments.
Also, the city’s vaccination efforts will still continue especially with the threat of the omicron variant.
Meanwhile, despite the devastation brought about by Typhoon Odette, the infection rate remains low, according to the Department of Health Region 7 (DOH 7).
As of January 4, Cebu City has reported 22 new cases of COVID-19 with 122 active cases. (ASC)
