Cebu Celebrates World Fair Trade Day
This month of May, the Cebu Partners and Fair Trade Center (SPFTC) and Cebu Fair Trade Network will hold two major events in line with the month-long celebration of the World Fair Trade Day in Cebu.
These are the Tianggehan sa Fair Trade and Social Enterprise and a Media Conference on May 11 at the Fair Trade Shop, and the Solidarity Dinner, the culminating activity on May 25 at the Lakwatsa Resto Lounge.
With the theme “Strengthening Fair Trade Standards,” the celebration enjoins the different members of World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO)–Philippines, Asia and Global with the goal of encouraging the public in supporting and buying goods from Fair Trade Producers and Social Enterprises. It also encourages the public to not “just buy,”but to “buy just” Fair Trade and Social Enterprise products.
The Fair Trade will feature the food products and crafts of SPFTC, and from the various Fair Trade, (WFTO) – Philippines, and Social Enterprises in Cebu /Central Visayas and from Organic Practitioners in the Central Visayas Region.
Guests from the government, church, private sector, and cooperatives will also join in with the grassroots organizations, women, NGOs, Cebu Fair Trade Network and Social Enterprises. Sharing and information drive on the Social Enterprise Bill will be engaged by the SPFTC and its partners, and the Friends of Fair Trade Card will also be launched to provide incentives and freebies to loyal customers of the Fair Trade Shop Cebu. The Friends of Fair Trade will be recognized by the different Fair Trade Shops in the country.
During the Solidarity Dinner, guests will be entreated by Fair Trade goodies at the same time will be a fund raising event that will benefit the groups involved in Fair Trade.
