Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) has reported that the project progress is now at 61%.

The overall engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) progress of the project are at 61%.

The actual construction progress is at 48%.

Furthermore, CCLEX management has said that the completion for the expressway is set for 2021.

“CCLEX is set to be nearing substantial completion in 2021. Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19, we commit to continue working hard towards completing the project next year for the benefit of the Cebuanos. It is something we look forward to, given the current conditions,” said Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC) President and General Manager Allan Alfon.

The installation of the bridge’s stay cables and the cross on top of the pylons marks the significant progress of the project.

There will be 14 stay cables on each side of the main bridge’s two towers or a total of 56 that varies in length between 60 meters to 210 meters, all anchored on the pylon and the deck.

The 40-meter cross on top of the pylons is one of the iconic features of the bridge. The cross is lighted on four sides at night.

The cross symbolizes Cebu’s notable role as the cradle of Christianity in the country.

Apart from these, other parts of CCLEX are also being simultaneously constructed.

These include concreting of the bridge deck and Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) on the ramp; construction of columns at CSCR off-ramp, Cebu viaduct, and Cordova viaduct; and piling works for the small bridges at the causeway that will serve as access of the fishermen to their fishing ground.

In its expected completion in 2021, the expressway will serve around 50,000 vehicles daily, reducing the traffic congestion on the two bridges in Mactan. It will open more economic opportunities for Cebu and the rest of the Visayas region. (ASC)
