(PIA-7 Cebu) — Coalition for a Better Education (CBE) honors and awards its medal of excellence to 10 fresh graduates having academic excellence in the field of education and community service for 2015.

They are Krizan Grachelle P. Andrin from University of Cebu, Sharlou M. Beltran from Cebu Institute of Technology, Tinna Franzhara Colina Chan of Cebu Normal University, Ivy C. Donque of South Western University, Josephione Ann Echeverria Fajardo from Mandaue City College, Sue Anne E. Gonza from University of San Carlos, John Kenneth D. Lumapay from Cebu Eatsern College, Althea P. Tigue of St. Theresa’s College, Irish Silva of Talisay City College and Lavernia P. Velez of Lapu-Lapu City College.

These students received a CBE Leadership Medal and Certificate of Recognition during their graduation ceremony as well as one-year free membership to the organization.

As awardees, these students reflected the values and characteristics of a Filipino who is employable, self sustaining, socially responsible, nationalistic and globally competitive lifelong learning.

These core values were evidenced through above average academic standing and participation and leadership in extra curricular activities that showcase collaboration, social responsibility and sustainability.

CBE president, Jeffrey Tarayao emphasized the importance of giving back from where they came from.

“Always go back to your universities kasi para lang yang drinking fountain eh, pag nauhaw ka bumabalik ka dun sa nag nourish sayo, bumabalik ka dun sa tumulong sayo para mas marami pa silang matulungan,” Tarayao said.

He also thanked the media covering the affair for reporting stories of inspiration. He said the media also has this responsibility to educate people and to inspire social responsibility and mobilization.

“Media is a new school, our degree emanates from media. They go beyond reporting they appeal to inspire positive change in the society,” he added.

The CBE Medal of Excellence Award is open to currently enrolled graduating students in the university taking up education courses with outstanding leadership. (mbcn/fcc/PIA7-Cebu)
