CBE Awards Its 10 Finalists
Coalition for Better Education is a non-government organization that advocates holistic education through integrated and dedicated members of the communities. With that said, this organization is composed of stakeholders in the community such as teachers, students, parents, government, NGOs, and businesses. Their advocacies include Education for All, the 10-point Philippine Education Agenda, Center for Teacher Excellence at the Cebu Normal University and the implementation of the K-to-12 system.
Through this organization, ten students under the Bachelors of Science in Education from different universities and colleges in Cebu will be awarded with the Medal of Excellence. This award embodies student leaders who follow the CBE principle of being self-sustaining, employable individuals who are socially responsible, nationalistic and globally competitive life-long learner. There was a mini-exhibit from April 29- May 1 at Ayala to celebrate CBE.
CBE Awardees for this year are Mr. Ariel I. Siquib (University of the Visayas), Mr Raphael Renz S. Unabia (Saint Theresa’s College), Ms Cathlien S.. Sigarra (Mandaue City College), Ms Christian Iyn Jane O. Alingaga (Cebu Institue of Technology University), Ms Honey C. Balbaboco (University of Southern Philippines Foundation), Ms Lhyn M. Arcilla (Cebu Normal University), Ms. Gee-Ann A. Saga (Lapu-Lapu City College), Ms Adeline G. Orazco (University of San Carlos-South Campus), Ms Carl Manila Atutube-Pal (University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue Campus) and Ms Camille Alonto (Benedicto College).
When asked what will happen now after being a CBE Awardee, Ms Adeline G. Orazco stated that she hopes to advocate for the teaching of sign language to the Deaf community and to bring awareness to their plight; and to create an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for the special children. “That will be one of the projects as a CBE awardee,” Orazco said, “We will adapt a community, not only for regular people like us but also for people with disabilities so that they will be included in the community and to stop the stereotype.”
