Casimero Drops IBF Title After Weighing 5 Pounds Over the Limit
“I earned the title the hard way after an ugly riot (happened in Argentina against Luis Lazarte fight), then I just lost this at the scale”, this is the sad reaction of Johnriel Casimero (19W (11KO’s)-L2) after he lost his IBF junior flyweight title at the scale when he weighs 5 pounds over the limit.
Casimero, 24, from Ormoc City, came in at 113.25 pounds while his opponent, Mauricio Fuentes (16W (10KO’s)-L2) of Colombia, weighed in at exactly 108 pounds during the official weigh-in held Friday morning at SM Cebu Events Center.
GAB Commissioner Fritz Gaston, who was supervising the IBF, has officially announced during the press conference held after the weigh-in that the title will be declared vacant if Casimero wins but Fuentes can bring home the belt if he beats Casimero.
“It would be an opportunity to Fuentes to become a world champion since Casimero is no longer world champion”, said Gaston.
Casimero, however, during the press conference, promised a good fight against Fuentes for his fans.
Meanwhile, the supporting bouts are as follows:
Harmonito dela Torre (130 lbs) vs Gadwin Tubigon (129 lbs) for the vacant WBF International Super- Featherweight title
