Career First Institute First to Launch Breakthrough PH Summit for Virtual Assistants
Virtual assistants are freelancing professionals capable of taking charge when things at work need to get done on time and in the right way. Contrary to popular notion, VAs are more than just personal secretaries that keep an organization updated and organized. They are also experts on tasks that many are unfamiliar with, but will help business thrive (e.g., video editing, content writing, web development, bookkeeping, to name a few).
Because VAs serve small businesses overseas, they mostly work remotely and independently, and many of them feel disconnected from their teams. If you are in the Philippines and currently working as VA of a company based in another country, isolation could be a very familiar territory. More often than not, you would feel like you don’t have anyone to bounce ideas off of or ask for help when the going gets tough.
Working from your home office all alone all day is hard, with no one to turn to and interact with. Nevertheless, virtual doesn’t have to be lonely.
Career First Institute (CFI) realize that in order for virtual assistants to be more motivated, they would have to be socially engaged. In keeping with this objective, CFI has partnered with Ameridea Global Services, Transformational Hub Australia, Plover, and Hello PH! Tourism, Inc in setting up an exciting gathering of virtual assistants to date.
The VA Con Cebu will be held on September 19th, 9AM-4PM at Maayo Hotel in Mandaue City and will offer more than just a day of continuing education and networking.
“This year’s conference theme, Working Effectively Across Cultures, provides a framework to engage participants in sharing and exploring intra- and inter-professional collaborations among administration, practice and education to improve the virtual assistance sector of the country,” says Mike Valmoria, event manager.
“We are witnessing many changes in this area as more and more entrepreneurs readily admit VAs have become essential assets along the lines of improving output, streamlining workflow, and reducing overhead costs in marketing and administrative work,” he continues.
The participants of VA Con Cebu will have the chance to meet pioneering thought leaders, each respected in their own industry, and learn as they discuss keynote topics and lead the panel discussion.
Kelvin Holliday, CEO of Transformational Hub, will headline the event on Sept 19th when he examines the importance of building personality along with a team culture that will thrive in remote working environments. Kelvin has been in the “middle of the battlefield” working with VAs in Cebu for over five years. He is business coach, learning advocate and author all in one.
According to Kelvin, “A vibrant and healthy culture is vital in building a team. Without it, progress is limited and nothing is sustainable!”
Lavi Peñaverde’s talk on embracing diversity will follow Kelvin’s address. Lavi is chief learning development officer and founder of Opus Ad Lucem and runs training programs all over the Philippines and abroad. She believes that laughter, joy, multiformity and working together are integral parts of the workplace process. “Striking a balance between individuality and collaboration will always be a challenge in our evolving business landscape. That’s why our human capital should be empowered on how to uniquely integrate in a corporate culture that requires authenticity, innovation and social connection,” she says.
Leading the panel discussion and Q&A is Michael Cubos who started his career as support staff and virtual assistant. He worked his way up the corporate ladder and is now the president and CEO of Performance360 Global Services and software firms RideHero and Coded Company Inc. He was 2016 Top Outstanding Cebuano Awardee for Entrepreneurship, past president of Cebu Innovation Council and has been recently appointed overall chairperson of Cebu Business Month 2020 of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
