Carcar City’s New PHP350-M City Hall 40% Complete
Carcar City Mayor Nicepuo Apura said the construction of the city’s PHP350-million new City Hall building in Barangay Poblacion 3 is already 40-percent complete.
Apura said the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has released the funds for the city hall building, which is being constructed in a one-hectare property in Carcar City, some 40 kilometers south of Cebu City.
WTCI, the contractor, is expected to finish it in December, he said.
The city hall building forms part of the first phase of the city’s ambitious PHP2-billion city center, which is targeted for completion in 2019.
The new city center will include PHP245-million public market and a PHP5-million transport terminal.
But Apura said the city ordinance authorizing him to enter into a PHP600-million loan with DBP for the city center project has been stalled in the Cebu Provincial Board (PB) after Cebu PB Member Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba moved for its deferment.
Alcoseba is Apura’s rival in the May 9 mayoral race.
Alcoseba earlier said the city government has no feasibility study showing it could pay PHP70 million per year in loan amortization to DBP in the next 15 years.
But Apura said the loan has been approved by the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF). (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
