Capiz ‘One in One’ Plants Over 1.1 Million Trees

The simultaneous provincewide tree planting in Capiz last June 25, in view of the Arbor Day celebration, has planted 1,104,842 tree seedlings, based on documentations summed up by the Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (CaPENRO).

The greening initiative dubbed “One in One Project” or a day-long tree planting that intended to plant one million trees was participated in by more than 100,000 Capiceños representing various national government agencies, non-government organizations, local government units, educational institutions and private groups.

The total seedlings planted included the 462,693 trees planted through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) in upland as well as coastal areas.

“Behind this project is the aim to unite Capiceños in the conservation, preservation and protection of the environment,” said CaPENRO head lawyer Emily Depon during the activity’s post evaluation and assessment at the Provincial Capitol here.

She added that the project was also highlighted by the establishment of a provincial arboretum at the Capiz Provincial Park here through the planting of 80 native and rare trees which include native fruit – bearing, beach and upland species.

Capiz Governor Antonio A. Del Rosario and Vice Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras II led the provincial government officials and other tree planting stakeholders at the park that was among the major site locations of “One in One.”

The outdoor museum of living Philippine native trees aims to save native trees from extinction and possible forest regeneration of native tree species.

Depon noted that native trees, aside from mangrove propagules, coconut and fruit – bearing trees seedlings, were also planted in other sites during the day.

She also added that a program to formally recognize all those who supported the reforestation activity is being planned out for next month. (LTP/AAL/PIA6 Capiz)
