Capitol Turns Over Various Projects in Northern Cebu

If it is for the development of the Cebuanos, the Cebu Provincial Government officials will be there no matter the distance.

Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale led the inauguration and groundbreaking of various projects in four local government units in northern Cebu on Thursday, Nov. 22.

These projects include playground facilities set up in different relocation sites for typhoon Yolanda survivors, a farmer’s trading post, a water system, road projects and baking tool kits.

The beneficiaries were the municipalities of Daanbantayan, Medellin and San Remigio, and Bogo City.

The playground facilities turned over to the typhoon survivors were part of the Capitol’s psycho-social intervention support for the children in the relocation sites located in Barangays Agujo and Paypay in Daanbantayan, and Barangays Tacup and Hagnaya in San Remigio.

Each playground facility costs P240,000.

During the inauguration ceremony, Davide said the playground facility project of the Capitol is intended for the youth.

“Hinaot nalipay kamo sa gihatag sa Provincial Government,” the governor said.

If there are other needs for the children, he told the parents to just inform the local government officials or directly to the Capitol officials so these can be addressed promptly.

Magpale advised the parents to enroll in the livelihood training programs of the Provincial Government so they can provide for their family’s needs, once they start earning.

“Kaning playground usa kini sa requirements sa total development of a child. Hinaot pa unta atong ampingan atong mga kabataan. Kami sa Lalawigan sa Sugbo andam motagana, mohatag sa mga panginahanglan sa mga kabataan, ilabi na sa kababayen-an,” said Magpale.

The governor and vice governor also inaugurated the new farmer’s trading post in Barangay Poblacion, Medellin and distributed knapsack sprayers to the three farmers’ associations. These associations are the Maharuhay Farmers’ Association, Captatan Sur Farmers’ Association, and Medellin Farmers Scientist Association (MFSA).

These projects given to Medellin cost P1.3 million.

In behalf of the beneficiaries, MFSA president Ignacio Gunhuran thanked the Davide, Magpale and officials of Medellin for giving farmers and fisherfolks the space where they can sell their crops and other products.

“Kini dugay na kaayo namong damgo. Nahimo ni’ng programa pinaagi ni Gov. Davide,” said Gunhuran.

The government officials also turned over the new Level III piped-water system in the Yolanda relocation site in Barangay Manio, San Remigio.

The facility, which costs P1.3 million, is part of the Capitol’s disaster recovery intervention in relocation sites.

A total of 52 rotisserie ovens and other baking tools were also distributed to the women in Barangays Manio and Tacup, Medellin for their baking project as part of the beneficiaries’ livelihood.

The governor ended the whole-day activity by inaugurating the newly concreted Libertad-Odlot Road in Bogo City worth P65 million and the groundbreaking ceremony of the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP)’s Anonang Sur-Lambusan farm-to-market road project that connects Bogo and San Remigio.

The P56.994 million Anonang Sur-Lambusan Road Project cover at least 5.715 kilometers. Of the amount set aside for the project, Davide said 10 percent, or P5.7 million, will serve as a counterpart of the Province.

“Malipayon kaayo ming tanan nga masugdan na gayud kini ang maong dalan. It was worth ang atong kahago ug paningkamot niini kay finally naa na gyud ni,” the governor said.

All these projects were made possible through the efforts of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Provincial Agriculture Office and Provincial Engineering Office, Department of Agriculture, PRDP and officials of four LGUs.

During the activities, Provincial Board Member Celestino Martinez III, Daanbantayan Acting Mayor Gilbert Arabis, San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez, Bogo City Mayor Carlos Jose Martinez, councilors of Medellin and other local officials were there to witness the activities.
