Capitol to Shoulder Payment for 60 SWAT Firearms Repair
The Cebu Provincial Government will pay for the repair and upgrade of 60 unserviceable firearms that will be used by the Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) members of Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).
Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III said he and Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Prudencio Tom Bañas have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on the matter.
The unserviceable M16 A1 rifles were gathered from different police offices under PRO 7.
Davide said each firearm’s repair costs Php16,800.
Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, CPPO director, said the firearms are needed by the SWAT personnel, who are issued with .9mm pistol and a rifle.
He said the repaired firearms can help boost the confidence of a police officer.
“If you have a very sophisticated firearm, I don’t think the criminals will fight it out with our SWAT personnel,” Gillamac said. (PNA) LGI/EB
