Capitol to Provide Hospital Services to Veterans, Beneficiaries
War veterans and their dependents can now enjoy hospital services following the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s (SP) agreement with the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) recently.
During its regular session held early this week, the SP authorized Governor Hilario P. Davide III to finalize the accord with PVAO over the medical services to all former military service personnel pursuant to Republic Act No. 7696.
PVAO is a government agency mandated to provide hospitalization to veterans through Veterans Memorial Medical Center. PVAO also accredits government hospitals that offer medical services to ex-soldiers, including their beneficiaries.
“Under the said law (RA 6948 as amended by RA 7696), the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) shall accredit government hospitals that extend healthcare services to veterans and their beneficiaries in cases where it is more convenient and expedient for them,” the resolution reads.
A memorandum of agreement (MOA) is set to be signed next week by Davide and PVAO administrator retired Lt. General Ernesto Carolina.
SP member Christopher Baricuatro, the principal sponsor of the resolution, said the LGUs are mandated to make available of its hospitals accessible to eligible veterans and their dependents as provided under the Local Government Code of 1991.
