Capitol to Highlight Unity in Sinulog 2018 Float
Unity towards “Kalambuan sa Matag Sugbuanong Barangay” is the Cebu Provincial Government’s theme for its float during the annual Sinulog grand parade this year.
The float will be designed by the Cebu Provincial Tourism Office.
“As the basic unit in our community, a barangay perfectly stands for unity. It is the governing body that goes to the grassroots level thus, forming unity towards progress,” explained Provincial Tourism Officer Joselito “Boboi” Costas.
To enliven the float, Costas said, pre-colonial characters, such as the raja, babaylan (Visayan term for indigenous religious leader), and timawa (those who have higher status than slaves) will be standing on top of a balangay ― a boat used in transporting goods.
Last year, the Capitol showcased plant and animal species that are endemic in Cebu, with the Cebu flower pecker as its main element.
Gov. Hilario P. Davide III has been strongly pushing for the institutionalization and strengthening of barangays and puroks, as officials in these units are the ones who better know the needs of the locals, specifically those in the grassroots level.
