Capitol to Give Out Seeds Through ‘Sugbusog’

To make staying at home more productive, the Cebu Provincial Government will provide municipal agricultural offices with seeds that are easier to plant and grow for free.

Vegetable gardening can be done in pots in urban areas and in backyards for bigger spaces.

According to Provincial Agriculturist’s Office chief Dr. Roldan Saragena, families can grow fast-maturing green leafy vegetables such as pechay which can be harvested within 20 days and lettuce within 18 days.

Other seeds ready for distribution are spring onions, upland kangkong (Chinese spinach), okra (lady finger), eggplant, string beans, and ampalaya (bitter gourd).

The program, dubbed as “Sugboanong Busog (SugBusog),” encourages families to be more self-sufficient while enjoying their bonding time on ECQ.

Residents may avail of the free seeds from their municipal and city agriculture offices. Inquiries on the program can be sent through its Facebook page SugBusog.

The program is also a contest for the top three best gardens to be chosen by the municipal or city agriculturist.

The best gardens will compete in the provincial level, Saragena said, and will be given substantial awards.

“At least naa ta’y mahimo nga produktibo sa atong kinabuhi. Instead of coming up with a fictitious account on Facebook to use for bashing, maypa’g mananom ta, duna pa ta’y maani o mapupo,” Garcia said. (SN)
