Capitol to Distribute P10M Worth of Seeds
The local government units (LGUs) of the Province of Cebu will get Php 10 million worth of assorted vegetable seeds and plastic drums from the Capitol.
Officer-in-Charge Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Roldan Saragena said the Php 5-million budget allocation was part of the Capitol’s rehabilitation program for those affected by the mild El Niño.
The other Php 5 million was intended to compensate the damage caused by Typhoon Seniang to the farm commodities last year.
Saragena said the province is still placed under the state of calamity even in the advent of the rainy season. This is because the state weather bureau forecasted the dry spell to persist until early next year, said Saragena.
The procurement of the seeds will be hastened so that the farmers can use the same especially the corn seeds for the next cropping season, which normally starts this August or September.
For El Niño rehab plan, all 51 LGUs will get the share of the seeds and plastic drums. OPA procured 39,000 seed packs of okra, stringbeans, ampalaya, tomato, kangkong, sikwa, upo, eggplant, squash, pechay, hot pepper, bell pepper, cucumber, and smash potato.
Also included were 20,800 seeds/pieces of mango, cacao, and banana suckers.
Some seeds were already distributed since last June especially for those who were affected by the typhoon Seniang.
