Capitol Spent Php49m For Barangay Workers Productivity Incentives

Although barangay workers are classified as volunteers, Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and Capitol officials believe they deserve more support in exchange for all the services they unselfishly contribute to the community.

These volunteers are a big help in implementing the programs of the government down to the household, especially during calamities and disasters.

Initial legal obstacles notwithstanding, the Cebu Provincial Government pushed through with the annual distribution of cash incentives to barangay workers that began in 2013.

From 2013 to 2015 a total of Php 49,013,200 cash incentives were given to barangay frontliners across Cebu Province according to the report of the Provincial Accounting Office.

The corresponding amount  disbursed to the districts are: 1st district-P8,202,000; 2nd district-P9,311,800; 3rd district-P8,734,000; 4th district- P9,698,400; 5th district-P7,921,700 and 6th district-P5,145,300.

Productivity incentives amounting to P2,400 were given to barangay health workers, nutrition scholars and day care center workers, and P1,500 for animal health aides and barangay tanods.

There are about 25,719 barangay workers in province of Cebu, excluding cities of Cebu City and Lapulapu.

Barangay workers only receive a small honorarium monthly. The honoraria is computed based on the barangay’s internal revenue allotment, which depends mainly on land area and population.

Distribution of the incentives is one of the Capitol’s ways of recognizing the efforts barangay frontliners for doing their job.
