Capitol, RIMC Sign MOA for Physicians’ Training
Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Region I Medical Center (RIMC) through their Chief of Hospital, Dr. Joseph Roland O. Mejia to train physicians in Cebu’s district and provincial hospitals.
The training will be on the following specializations: Surgery, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine and Anesthesia.
Department of Health (DOH) Asec. Eleer G. Punzalan, Cebu Provinvial Health Office chief Dr. Rene Catan, and Dr. Antonio Roque R. Paradela, chief of clinics in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC), representing VSMMC chief of hospital Dr. Gerardo Aquino witnessed the MOA signing Thursday, October 5.
RIMC is a Philhealth-accredited medical facility with a 300-bed capacity. It is a licensed tertiary government hospital in Dagupan City, Pangasinan that provides residency training for doctors.
“The residency training program is formed and organized through DOH, in order to be able to reach out to the provinces and to the towns and municipalities throughout the Philippines,” Punzalan said.
The program is part of DOH’s thrust to reach out to towns and provinces in the country to improve its healthcare services.
Presently, Cebu Province has 16 hospitals. Five of which are classified as Level 1 while 11 are classified as Primary Health Care Facilities.
Each hospital has doctors specializing in out-patient medical services, emergency, ward admissions, delivery and operating procedures.
Catan said that aside from enhancing the doctor’s knowledge and skills, he expects a better delivery of service in the province-owned hospitals.
“We can only expect better service, pinaagi sa makadungag ta ug daghang medical specialist para sa atuang mga provincial hospitals,” Catan said.
